Activities | 2015 – 16

Iftaari celebrations on 9 July 2015 – the breaking of the fast at dusk along with our Islamic brethren during the holy month of ‘Ramzan’.

Orientation session on 10 July with a warm welcome and a brief introduction to familiarize the first year students with the various activities of the chair and the methods of contributing towards it.

Guest lecture – Mr. Alberto Quattrucci, Secretary General of the Sant Egidio Community, Italy, who conducted many enlightening sessions on ‘Peace’ for students from several departments from 28 July to 1 August.

Colours of God – On 23 November 2015, the Colours of God competition was organized. The theme this year was ‘Paint a Peace Fabric’ showcasing the concept of peace from each artist’s perspective on the fabric provided to them. Prof. Eleatha Pinto was the judge and declared Ms. Sakshi Bangera (F.Y.J.C.), Ms. Sheetal Kotian (T.Y.B.Com.) and Ms. Rochelle D’Souza (S.Y.B.Com.) as victorious.

Christmas celebration – On 21 December, Christmas celebrations were held with decoration of the Christmas tree and preparation of the crib, filling the air with fun and frolic.

Guest lecture –  49 Andrannual 2015 -16 The New Year 2016 commenced with a guest lecture delivered by an exAndrean, Mr. Rajesh Ramaswamy on ‘Japanese Culture’ on 16 January.

A field trip – a day out to experience, feel and view the rich culture of Maharashtra at Shaniwar Wada – the Peshwa Palace, and the Raja Kelkar Museum at Pune on 18 January 2016.

A comparative analysis on the movies PK and Oh My God was presented on 19 January, 2016, by the second year students, Ms.Shalini Mitra, Mr. Siddhant Sinha and Ms. Rochelle D’Souza. They questioned the different facades of the movies and their relationship with God and religion.

The International Symposium held on 27 January 2016 on ‘Relevance of Religion’. Fr. Francis Gonsalves S.J, Professor of Systematic theology and scripture from Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeet, Pune was the keynote speaker. He presented his views on the ‘Importance of Inter-faith dialogue’. The other dignitaries included Ven. Dhammachari Chandrabodhi (Theravada Buddhist); Dr. Kokila Shah (Professor of K.J.Somaiya Centre for studies in Jainism), Ms. Uzma Naheed, the executive director of Iqra Education foundation, Brahmakumari Vinita and Terkel Douglas, Bachelor of Political Science from the University of Copenhagen – who presented their papers with their perspectives and interpretations on the topic. 

The annual Inter- Collegiate Sports for Peace Tournament – ‘Rink Hockey’ on 29 – 30 January. Rizvi College were declared the champions and also the runners up among the boys category and in the girls category MMK College were the winners while St. Andrew’s College won second place.
