2013-14

  1. The department of Hindi celebrated Kabirjayanti in month of August. Students took part in elocution and poem telling competition. F.Y.J.C. Students gave Power Presentation on Gandhi and his life related to education, Mother Terasa and her selfless duty for society and Industrial Revolution and progress in India.
  2. S.Y.J.C. students made posters on Environment Day in Hindi. They also presented side effect of chemical on human life, which was related to their syllabus.

Hindi Day

Hindi Day was celebrated on September 20, 2013. The theme of the day was “Crime against women and self-defence.” On this occasion department also conducted Rangoli competition, Mehandi Competition, pot painting, Bollywood dances, Power point presentations related with famous Hindi writers and skit. The activities were focused towards students’ talent and reflection on Hindi language. Students tried to present the old melodies to new modern dances and Hindi film songs and change in that.

Various events like Mehandi, Rangoli, Pot painting and skit competition were also held.

2012-13

  1. The department celebrated Kabir Jayanti on July 10,2012. On this occasion, students made presentation on Kabir’s life, his literature and also recited some of his “dohas”.
  2. Hindi elocution competition was conducted to celebrate Gurupurnima on July 12, 2012.
  3. “Hindi Diwas” was celebrated on Sept 14, 2012. The department also conducted “Nari Shiksha Abhiyan” in the memory of the great social reformer Mahatma Phule.

2011-12

  1. The Hindi Department conducted different activities throughout the academic year 2011-12.The aim of conducting these activities was to help students discover their latent talent and to make them confident of public speaking.
  • Presentations on Important Lessons for board examination were conducted in the S.Y.J.C. classes of Commerce and Science. These sessions received good response from the students.
  • Poems Recitation on “Kabirvani” and Elocution competition on “Teacher’s Day.”(Guru Purnima) was conducted for the students of S.Y.J.C. Arts, Commerce and Science.
  1. Postermaking competition was conducted for F.Y.J.C. and S.Y.J.C, the theme was “SARVADHARMASAMBHAV.”
  1. On 20th December,2011 Hindi Day celebrated at St.Andrew’s Junior College.The activities were focused towards paying tributes to the great poets and authors of Hindi Literature. Students did research on these personalities and presented their works in brief to the audience. We also had competitions like Essay, Elocution, Mehandi and Rangoli.
  1. The day was great success and the Department plans to add more activities next year, with contributions from teachers and students.

2010-11

To help students discover their hidden talents, the Department of English has conducted various activities through the different academic years.

In 2013-14, the Department of English conducted ‘Word Quest’, ‘Celebrity Interview’ and ‘Picture Caption’ for the SYJC and ‘Who am I?’ and ‘What’s the Good Word?’ for the FYJC students. Also debates and discussions were conducted during lectures and poems, articles and posters were displayed on ‘The Writer’s Den’.

Besides these activities the Department of English conducts Elocution and Essay Writing Competitions at the College level. An Inter-Collegiate English Elocution Competition ‘Your Words’ Worth It’ is organized every year by the English Department.

In the academic year 2012-13 the Department of English conducted ‘Humorous Advertising’ and ‘One Minute Wisdom’ for the SYJC students and ‘What’s the Good Word?’, ‘Spin a Yarn’ and ‘Enactment’ for the FYJC students. Apart from these activities, various PowerPoint Presentations, Debates and Discussions were held during lectures. Poems and paintings by our students were also displayed on ‘The Writer’s Den.

During the academic year 2010-11, ‘Declamation’ and ‘PowerPoint Presentation’ were conducted for the SYJC students while for the FYJC students ‘Declamation’ and ‘Aping a Celebrity’ were conducted. Besides these activities, poems written by students were also displayed on our Department notice board ‘The Writer’s Den’.

The Department organized two interesting activities during the academic year 2011-12 for the SYJC students- ‘Humorous News Reading’ and ‘Enactment’. The activities ‘What’s the Good Word?’ and ‘Talent Hunt’ were organized for the FYJC students. Poems on themes of love, friendship and patriotism were regularly displayed on our Department notice board ‘The Writer’s Den’

  • On October 2010, the students of SYJC visited the Reserve Bank of India Museum .

  • On December 2010, Mr Errol Dsouza the manager of Citizen Co-Op Bank, delivered an interesting lecture on the latest developments in the banking industry

  • A Power point presentation along with a video on Tourette’s Syndrome was shown to S.Y.J.C Arts students.
  • F.Y.J.C students prepared charts on Effects of Stress.
  • Professor Sharmilla Menon (Dept. of Psychology) attended a one month certificate course in “Basic Skills in Counselling” held by Sinara Education in the month of May 2011.
2014-15

  • An informative session on “New Age IT trends-simulators and computer based manufacturing mechanism” was conducted for the FYJC IT students belonging to XI Commerce and Arts students on 6th August and 7th August 2014 where the students were shown video clips related to the latest computer simulators and computer based manufacturing techniques.

2013-14

  • An interactive session was conducted for the SYJC computer science students on 9th October 2013 in the computer laboratory. The topic was “Debugging C++”. The session has helped the Computer Science students in debugging (detecting and solving errors encountered by them while writing and compiling C++ programs)

2012-13

  • A talk on how to study was conducted for the SYJC IT students on June 13,2012
  • A lecture was conducted on “A short cut method in Assembly language practical” for the SYJC Computer Science students on September 6, 2012

2011-12

  • A session was conducted for the SYJC Computer Science students on “Motivation”. The session was conducted using various video clips where were shown to the students in the computer laboratory.
  • Also a group discussion was conducted on various IT topics such as “Advantages of Internet” & “Microcomputers” for the FYJC IT students.
2014-2015

  • Power Point Presentations on the topics ‘Chemistry in Everyday Life’ and ‘Polymers’ were conducted by students of SY JC Science in September 2014

  • The department also organized an Inter class Chemistry Quiz for the students of FY JC Science in December 2013

2012-2013

  • The S.Y.J.C. Science students made a Power-point presentation on the topic ‘Polymers and Chemistry in Everyday Life’. The PPT was accompanied by students coming on stage and explaining the various points depicted on the slide.
  • The S. Y. J. C. students were given various topics like solid state, f-block elements p – block elements, antioxidants etc. and were asked to collect extra information on the topic and write about it as a part of their project.
  • A class wise quiz competition was conducted for the F. Y. J. C. students followed by an Inter-class Quiz Competition.

2011-2012

  • The Department conducted many interesting activities throughout the year to enable students to develop interest in the subject and to encourage them to have a scientific approach in life. power point presentation was followed by an interactive session on ‘Chemistry in Everyday Life’ by the students of S.Y.J.C. Science.
  • In order to prepare our students for their HSC and other competitive examinations, a seminar was conducted by Mr. Mayur Mehta, Supervisor and Professor of Chemistry, Mithibai College, Vile Parle. Mr. Mehta spoke to our students on ‘A systematic way to learn Chemistry for the HSC Board and other Competitive Examinations’.
  • To make the study of elements easier and interesting, a model of the Modern Periodic Table was prepared with the help of F.Y.J.C. Science students. ‘Fun with Chemicals’ was organized to teach the basic principles in an atmosphere of fun and frolic.
  • To encourage our students to get thorough knowledge about atomic structure and the position and properties of elements, an interclass quiz was organized 01’1 ‘Atomic Structure and Modern Periodic table’.

 

2010-2011

  • A Power Point presentation on ‘Chemistry in Every Day Life’ was conducted by five students . An Inter-Class Quiz Competition for the S.YJ.C. Science student was held in August 2010 on ‘Halogen Derivatives of alkanes’. There was an enthusiastic response from the students.
